Frequently Asked Questions
What happens during a solar installation?
Depending on your chosen solar system, there are common tasks involved with any solar installation.
Access to the electrical panel and your attic are essential.
If you’re hiring us for the solar installation, one of our crew members will mark off their work zones and remove any furniture beforehand for improving access (in order to move in and out with the solar panels and tools).
Electrical equipment is often mounted on the side of your home. This equipment, includes, the solar inverter, the meter, and electrical disconnects. The electrical wiring (conduit) is used and then installed to connect all of this equipment according to the design (see above) for your home.
After the solar panels are installed, our crew will ensure everything is working correctly and leave your home spotless.
When you receive permission to operate (PTO), you’ll have the permission you need to operate your solar energy system from your local utility company.
Of course, each install is a little different, but in general, a couple days to a week is all that is need to actually install your solar solution.
How many solar panels do I need?
There are several factors to consider when determining the number of solar panels needed for your home and depending on the solar system you’re looking for, you should consider these factors prior to thinking about the solar installation.
Common factors which will likely affect the amount of solar panels you need, include:
- The size of your home
- The power requirements
- Your local climate
- The amount of direct sunlight (for your home)
Since every house is going to be different, the size of your home and the energy requirements are going to vary. All the technical details are typically sorted out by the specialists for determining the exact amount of solar panels needed for your home.
Sometimes you can gauge your actual power usage (by reviewing your electric bills) to determine the average amount of kilowatts that are being used in your household on a daily basis. The average solar system generates about five kilowatts a day, but just like you wouldn’t want to buy shoes in the average size (obviously, you’d want the shoes that fit for you), you might need more or less energy to fit your needs. This becomes a factor to figure out for you when determining the amount of solar panels you need.
Depending on your local climate, you might need more power based on where you live in the United States. Since the amount of potential energy is based largely on how much solar radiation is reaching your solar system, you will need to consider the climate for the amount of solar panels you need to have it all make sense.
The amount of direct sunlight is another important factor when determining the amount of solar panels for your system. In general, how much direct sun is hitting your roof? And is there anything obstructing direct sun (e.g. tall trees/buildings, etc)? The obstructions will certainly impact the potential amount of sunlight you would be able to harness with your solar system.
That’s why customers rely on our expertise to help provide real insights for their unique situation. We’ll help you determine the amount of solar panels you need. Feel free to give us a call.
